Western experts are increasingly voicing concerns about the possibility of a third world war, according to a report by the Spanish outlet El Pais.

The publication noted that while there is no unified view on whether a global conflict is inevitable, most analysts agree that if geopolitical tensions continue to grow, the likelihood of a large-scale war will rise accordingly.

Particular attention was given to Ukraine, described as Europe’s most vulnerable spot due to the ongoing hostilities on its territory since February 2022.

El Pais also included a projection generated by the AI system ChatGPT. The analysis suggested that in the event of a global conflict, Ukraine could be among the first to disappear from the political map. However, the forecast stressed that much would depend on the decisions of political leaders, the course of the conflict, and geographical factors.

The report listed additional areas deemed at risk, including non-nuclear states located near major military powers. Estonia, Latvia, Taiwan, South Korea, and Israel were named among the most exposed.

Despite the warnings, experts highlighted that several restraining factors still help prevent the slide into a worldwide catastrophe: the mutual threat of destruction, economic interdependence, and ongoing diplomacy. These, for now, continue to act as barriers against a full-scale global war.
