Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov has confirmed to reporters that the leaders of Russia and the United States will hold a summit on August 15 in Alaska. He said the U.S. side had announced the agreement to host the meeting on its territory.

Ushakov noted that Russia and the United States are «close neighbors» sharing a border, and that it seemed logical for the Russian delegation to simply cross the Bering Strait to attend such an important and long-awaited summit in Alaska.

According to him, the talks will focus on reaching a long-term settlement of the conflict in Ukraine, as well as exploring prospects for major joint projects in both the Arctic and Alaska that would be mutually beneficial.

Earlier, U. S. President Donald Trump announced the date and location of the meeting with Vladimir Putin on his Truth Social account. If it goes ahead, it will mark the first meeting between the U.S. and Russian leaders since Trump assumed office as the 47th president of the United States.
