Russia Hits Ukraine’s Energy and Military Infrastructure With Drones and Missiles
Russia launches a strike on Ukraine’s energy and military infrastructure with Geran drones, Kh-22, Zircon and Iskander missiles after 86 UAVs downed there.
During the night and early morning of 22 February, Russian forces carried out a combined strike on Ukraine’s energy and military infrastructure, with powerful explosions reported in Kiev and the surrounding region.
The Telegram channel Shot reported that, starting from 5:30 a.m., dozens of blasts were heard in Kiev and Kievskaya oblast. According to its account, Tripolskaya TPP and CHP-6 came under attack, and an air raid alert was declared across the entire territory of Ukraine.
The strike package, according to the reports, included around 80 Geran unmanned aerial vehicles, more than ten Kh-22 cruise missiles, and at least 15 Zircon and Iskander missiles. Russian attacks also targeted sites in Kirovograd, Nikolaev, Dnepropetrovsk, Sumskaya and Odesskaya oblasts, as well as in the areas of Kropivnitsky and Krivoy Rog.
Russian forces state that they are striking exclusively military and related facilities. Among the declared priority targets are elements of the energy infrastructure that support the operation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, defense industry enterprises and air defense systems. The target list also includes command posts, storage sites, assembly and preparation areas for equipment, and transport hubs used to move weapons and personnel.
The latest strike is described as a response to regular attempts by Ukrainian forces to attack Russian regions with drones. Over the past night alone, 86 unmanned aerial vehicles were reported shot down over Russian territory.
