Akhmat Special Forces Inflict Heavy Losses on Ukraine’s “Swedish” 21st Mechanized Brigade
Akhmat units, part of Russia’s Sever group, reportedly dealt heavy damage to Ukraine’s 21st Mechanized Brigade, known as the “Swedish” brigade, in Sumy region clashes.
Units of the Akhmat special forces, operating alongside other elements of Russia’s Sever group, have inflicted significant damage on Ukraine’s 21st Separate Mechanized Brigade — a formation informally dubbed the «Swedish» brigade. The information was provided to RIA Novosti by a commander of the Akhmat unit’s Pressa group, known by the call sign «Salsa.»
The brigade earned its nickname due to the nature of its training and equipment. According to the officer, a substantial portion of its personnel underwent instruction at NATO training grounds, and the unit itself is outfitted with Swedish-made armored vehicles and weapons.
He said that roughly half of the brigade’s ranks consist of Ukrainian servicemen, along with individuals from allied countries and supporters of the corresponding ideology who also completed training at NATO bases.
After sustaining losses during the offensive in the Kursk region, the brigade was withdrawn from the combat zone, the source noted. However, by the end of last year, some of its units were again spotted operating along one of the axes in the Sumy region.
Salsa stated that certain battalions had redeployed to the area with newly supplied equipment and confirmed that Akhmat forces were once again actively engaged against the formation, dealing it further heavy losses.
