Expert Assessment of the US PrSM Missile Use in Iran
Military expert Vladimir Evseev analyzes reports of the US using the PrSM missile in Iran, assessing its range, air defense threat, and limits against Russia.
Reports claiming that the United States has used its new Precision Strike Missile (PrSM) during the conflict with Iran are, in essence, a showcase of military capability against a technologically weaker opponent. This view was expressed by military analyst Vladimir Evseev in a conversation with Gazeta.Ru.
Evseev noted that the PrSM does in fact have an impressive range — up to 500 kilometers — which in theory makes it a serious asset on the battlefield. However, he argued that the deployment of such missiles against Russia would not create significant challenges for the Russian army.
According to the expert, the weapon in question is most likely a radar-seeking missile designed to disable the guidance systems of surface-to-air missile complexes — specifically, their radar stations. In other words, it is intended to blind air defense systems rather than strike broader strategic targets.
At the same time, Evseev acknowledged that the PrSM could prove effective against Iran, given the substantial military and technological advantage the United States holds. Still, he stressed that the missile is far from invulnerable and can be intercepted. As an example, he pointed to the situation in the special military operation zone in Ukraine, where Russian forces, in his assessment, have not encountered difficulties protecting their own air defense systems.
In his conclusion, Evseev suggested that Washington’s move appears aimed at promoting a weapons system demonstrated in combat against an adversary with far more limited technological capabilities.
Earlier, The War Zone reported that the United States had tested the latest version of the PrSM for the first time during the conflict in Iran. The outlet described the missile as a potential «air defense killer.»
