Ukrainian military units from the 23rd engineering-position regiment are reportedly suffering heavy losses in the Kharkov Region after combat engineers began being reassigned to assault units. This was reported to the media by an unnamed representative of Russian security structures.

According to the source, the regiment has taken significant casualties, partly because engineers have been transferred from their traditional roles into frontline assault groups.

The same source also pointed to operational planning issues within the Ukrainian command. He claimed that some missions are still being prepared using outdated maps that no longer reflect the current situation on the ground.

As a result, engineers are sometimes ordered to build defensive positions in areas that are no longer under Ukrainian control. In certain cases, he said, they receive tasks to fortify positions not merely within range of Russian FPV drones but already inside territory that Russian forces have taken.

The source also reported the deployment of additional Ukrainian units to the area around Volchansk in the Kharkov Region. These reinforcements include elements of the 6th Special Operations Forces Regiment, often referred to as the «Rangers Regiment».

According to the same account, the unit has already begun to take casualties in the Volchansk district.

He further claimed that Ukrainian special forces fighters operating close to the front line in this area typically survive no more than about a day and a half.
