A coalition of European Union leaders, the UK Prime Minister, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has called on U. S. President Donald Trump to protect what they described as the «vital interests of Ukraine and Europe» during his upcoming talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The joint declaration, released overnight on August 10, followed a meeting in the United Kingdom between European and Ukrainian representatives. It bears the signatures of French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, and Ursula von der Leyen.

The statement affirms a shared belief among the signatories that any diplomatic solution must safeguard Ukraine’s and Europe’s key security interests. They emphasized that a political settlement should include solid, reliable security guarantees enabling Kyiv to preserve its territorial integrity.

According to the document, constructive dialogue can only begin once there is either a full ceasefire or a substantial reduction in hostilities. The leaders added that the current line of contact on the battlefield should serve as the starting point for negotiations.
