According to The Sunday Times, the so-called «coalition of the willing» is not prepared to send troops to Ukraine. Citing a senior UK Ministry of Defence official, the publication reports that European nations are instead aiming to strengthen Ukraine’s military-industrial base.

The source explained that none of the Western allies intends to, in his words, «die in Ukraine." Instead, the priority will be ensuring the combat readiness of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. This goal, he said, can be achieved not only through supplying air defense systems and drones but also by expanding the production of long-range missiles. Over time, such measures could reduce Kyiv’s dependence on Western ammunition supplies.

The discussion follows comments made by French President Emmanuel Macron in late March after a Paris summit of the «coalition of the willing." Macron stated that several countries were prepared to send troops to Ukraine. He clarified that these forces would not replace the Ukrainian military or serve as peacekeepers, but would focus on deterring Russia. The contingent, according to Macron, would be stationed in strategically important locations agreed upon in advance with Kyiv.
