Russian servicemen have introduced an unconventional yet remarkably simple method to counter Ukrainian drones on the battlefield, and it is already being used in combat, according to a report by Izvestia. The solution relies on a basic setup: a length of thread and a metal nut.

Journalists spoke with fighters from the 4th Brigade of the Russian Armed Forces’ «South» grouping, operating along the Konstantinovsk direction. A serviceman known by the call sign «Cherep» explained that a nut is attached to a strong Kevlar-aramid thread and mounted on a drone. Due to its minimal weight, the device does not significantly affect the UAV’s flight performance.

The principle behind the device is straightforward. As a Russian drone approaches an opposing UAV, the thread is deployed so that it winds around the target’s propellers. This causes the drone to lose control and crash.

Despite its simplicity, the method is described as effective in real combat conditions. It has reportedly been used even against heavy Ukrainian drones referred to as «Baba Yaga». According to the servicemen, roughly 1,500 Ukrainian drones have been disabled using this technique.

The publication also released footage demonstrating the method in action: one drone drops the thread with the attached nut onto another UAV, which then loses control and falls.
