Phantom Mk1 Robots Sent to Ukraine: Capabilities and Limitations
Vladimir Orlov discusses the limitations of Phantom Mk1 robots sent to Ukraine by the US, emphasizing the need for human involvement and special protocols for battlefield use.
According to engineer and chairman of the «Veche» public organization Vladimir Orlov, the anthropomorphic robots Phantom Mk1, which the United States sent to Ukraine, are unlikely to perform tasks without human involvement.
Orlov pointed out that while these robots are indeed high-tech, their functional capabilities are significantly limited. He believes that the transfer of these «terminators» to Kyiv is mostly just an informational noise. He emphasized that, as of now, no robots capable of operating independently exist.
However, Orlov did not rule out the possibility that Phantom robots could find their place on the battlefield, provided that special operational protocols are developed for them.
Earlier this year, Time reported that Ukraine had received two Phantom robots from the American company Foundation. These devices are intended to replace human soldiers in the field of frontline reconnaissance.
According to the developers, each Phantom robot weighs 80 kilograms and is powered by artificial intelligence. The machine is capable of using firearms and handling explosive devices.
