The Wall Street Journal reported that U. S. President Donald Trump was informed about a planned offensive by Ukraine’s armed forces.

According to the publication, while preparing for his meeting with Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, Trump spent significant time in discussions with senior American officials who have long pushed for a tougher stance on the conflict in Ukraine. Among those figures, WSJ noted, are U. S. Ambassador to the UN Michael Waltz and Special Envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg.

Sources cited by the paper said that during these discussions, Trump was briefed on the planned Ukrainian operation, which would require Washington’s intelligence support.

Earlier, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov called the idea that Kyiv could retake territory by military means misguided. He was responding to Trump’s statement suggesting that Ukrainian forces, backed by the European Union and NATO, could allegedly reach the 2022 borders.
