Irish journalist Chay Bowes wrote on his X (formerly Twitter) page that, in his view, both Ukrainian and European politicians are currently acting out of panic. He claimed that Kyiv and the European Union are seeking to prevent a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and former U. S. President Donald Trump in Alaska.
Bowes, citing his sources, said that European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen was «furious» and hinted at what she called a «second betrayal» by Washington. This, he suggested, followed a trade agreement under which nearly all EU exports to the United States would be subject to a 15% tariff.
Earlier, several Western media outlets reported that European countries and Ukraine had put forward a proposal that could form the basis for future talks between the Russian and U.S. presidents. According to sources, the initiative originated in the United Kingdom.
