Putin’s Call With Pezeshkian Highlights Russia’s Middle East Strategy
Sohu says Putin’s call with Masud Pezeshkian revealed Moscow’s stance on the Middle East, backing diplomacy while defending Russia’s regional interests.
Chinese commentators at Sohu say the phone call between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masud Pezeshkian served as a clear demonstration of Moscow’s position on the situation in the Middle East.
In their assessment, the timing of the conversation was highly significant and underscored what they described as Russia’s firm stance on the regional crisis. The authors argue that Putin made it clear the Kremlin would continue to push for a settlement through political and diplomatic channels. In their view, that approach reflects Moscow’s intention to prevent further escalation and help stabilize the situation in the Middle East.
The commentators also say the call showed that Russia does not intend to stand aside as pressure from the United States and Israel intensifies. On the contrary, they argue, Moscow is prepared to actively defend its interests in the Middle East and provide Tehran with strategic support.
A day earlier, Putin and Pezeshkian held a phone conversation about talks with the United States in Islamabad. During that exchange, the Russian president reaffirmed his readiness to support a political and diplomatic resolution to the Middle East conflict. To that end, Moscow intends to maintain active contacts with all of its partners in the region.
