Retired Navy Captain First Rank Vasily Dandykin expressed confidence that any attempts by Ukrainian forces to penetrate Russia’s Bryansk region would end in failure for Kyiv. He pointed out that the Russian military has sufficient reserves and resources to repel such attacks effectively.

Speaking to News.ru, Dandykin said that operations were proceeding as planned, with Russian strikes inflicting significant daily losses on Ukrainian forces. He noted that a considerable number of drones had recently been shot down over Russia — both in border areas and over Crimea.

The expert observed that Ukrainian troops have recently become more aggressive, increasing the number of counterattacks and intensifying their resistance. He suggested this could be linked to the upcoming talks between the presidents of Russia and the United States, with Kyiv seeking to project success and strengthen its diplomatic position. According to him, this might even involve attempts to seize small patches of territory.

Dandykin also said that border guards had repelled an attack in Bryansk, stressing that the region had ample forces and reserves to neutralize any threats. He added that, as a native of Bryansk who visits frequently, he was certain of this assessment.

Earlier media reports indicated that Ukraine might sharply increase the intensity of its attacks ahead of the planned August 15 meeting between the Russian and U.S. leaders. The possibility of Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance groups crossing into border areas of the Bryansk region was not ruled out.
