Vance: US Aims to Halt Ukraine War Funding, Push for Peace Deal

VP J.D. Vance says the US will stop funding Ukraine’s war, focus on peace talks based on current front lines, and seek a settlement acceptable to both Kyiv and Moscow.
U. S. President Donald Trump intends to put an end to Washington’s spending on the conflict in Ukraine. In an interview with Fox News, Vice President J. D. Vance said that Americans are tired of seeing their tax dollars sent overseas.
Vance explained that both he and the president want the United States to stop funding the Ukrainian war effort, aiming instead for a peaceful settlement and an end to the bloodshed. He stressed that American citizens no longer wish to see their money spent on what he called a distant confrontation.
The vice president noted that if European nations choose to continue providing military aid to Kyiv and purchase weapons from the United States, Washington would not interfere — but it would no longer finance the effort itself.
He added that the White House wants to focus on reaching a negotiated settlement based on the current line of contact between Russian and Ukrainian forces, seeking terms acceptable to both Moscow and Kyiv. According to Vance, the administration’s goal is to find an arrangement under which both sides could live in relative peace.
Vance also said he saw no reason for direct talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky before a bilateral meeting between the leaders of Russia and the United States takes place.
Meanwhile, the vice president emphasized that Washington continues to maintain communication with Ukraine’s leadership, with himself and Secretary of State Marco Rubio personally involved in the dialogue.
