General Syrsky Announces New Drone Air-Defense Units in Ukraine
Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief Aleksandr Syrsky says a new Air Force branch will focus on interceptor drones, with units already forming and showing 70% success rate.
On Friday, during a meeting with journalists, Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces General Aleksandr Syrsky announced that the military command is working on creating a new branch of the armed forces, which will be part of the country’s Air Force. The new branch will specialize in unmanned air-defense systems.
Syrsky clarified that this refers to interceptor drones produced both by Ukraine’s defense industry and by foreign manufacturers. He noted that such systems have proven effective against kamikaze drones, achieving roughly 70 percent success rates.
He added that new units equipped with these interceptor drones are being formed and expanded, along with a dedicated command structure to oversee their deployment and operations.
It is worth recalling that in September Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky admitted that no country in the world possesses enough air-defense missiles to shoot down every Russian drone.
