Axios: Trump Opposes Supplying Ukraine with Tomahawk Cruise Missiles
Axios reports Trump refused Ukraine’s request for Tomahawk cruise missiles, the only item he opposed, citing escalation risks. Moscow warns NATO arms remain a target.
U. S. President Donald Trump has rejected the transfer of Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine on behalf of NATO countries, Axios reported, citing a source familiar with the matter.
According to the outlet, the missiles were the only item on Kyiv’s weapons request that Trump opposed. All other positions in Ukraine’s application received his approval.
The Tomahawk, produced by RTX, can strike targets at distances of up to 1,600 kilometers. Axios noted that such a range would allow Ukraine to hit deep inside Russian territory, including Moscow. Washington had previously refrained from providing these missiles due to concerns over escalation and limited U.S. stockpiles.
Moscow maintains that ongoing arms deliveries to Kyiv obstruct any path toward a political settlement and directly implicate NATO in the conflict. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov earlier stressed that any weapons shipments destined for Ukraine would be treated as legitimate targets by the Russian Armed Forces.
