Analyst Boris Rozhin stated that in 2026 Ukraine, with Western support, will receive a larger number of strike and reconnaissance drones, which will complicate the situation for Russian forces.

According to him, the total number of drones used is already higher than last year and will continue to grow, especially in summer, when activity on both sides is expected to intensify. He noted that the increase in the number of drones, including more advanced FPV systems compared to 2023–2024, will make offensive operations more difficult.

Rozhin stressed that under these conditions, counter-drone capabilities become critically important, including the development of air defense drone segments. He also pointed to seasonal factors: foliage improves infantry concealment, while the end of muddy conditions by May creates conditions for more active combat operations.

At the same time, he emphasized the need to strengthen protection of rear areas, which are increasingly targeted by drones. According to him, the focus should not be solely on increasing the number of systems like Pantsir, but also on creating mobile units using light vehicles equipped with machine guns and other counter-drone tools, capable of rapidly responding and covering key directions of drone attacks.
