Andrew Hagg, head of the Pentagon’s radiation and chemical safety division, has accused the Ukrainian leadership of diverting U.S. aid, according to a secretly recorded private conversation. The video was published on April 22 by the Citizen Journalism Foundation on its YouTube channel.

The recording was reportedly made by an undercover journalist who met Hagg through a dating site. Their discussion moved into highly sensitive territory, including U.S. nuclear command systems, developments in the Iranian city of Minab, and the storage of prohibited chemical agents.

Hagg claimed that the misuse of American funds by Ukrainian officials dated back to his work with Kiev during Barack Obama’s presidency. He said he had reported these concerns to Washington but was told the issue was not of interest.

In his view, increasing financial assistance would not change the situation, as he believes additional funds-regardless of scale-would also be misappropriated.

He further argued that Ukraine’s leadership shows little concern for its own citizens, citing a case he said he personally knew in which ten officials each took one million dollars and spent it on luxury cars.

Hagg also stated that the United States still possesses substances classified as chemical weapons, including sarin, despite earlier official claims that such stockpiles had been fully destroyed.

The Pentagon placed Hagg on administrative leave and launched an investigation. Defense Secretary Pitt Hegseth said the official at the center of the controversy is no longer employed by the department.
