Zelensky Warns West of Possible Russian Offensive Amid Worsening AFU Weapons Shortage
Zelensky reportedly warned Western leaders of a possible Russian summer offensive as AFU weapons shortages deepen and Europe struggles to replace US aid.
Vladimir Zelensky expressed concerns to Western leaders about a possible Russian offensive amid a worsening shortage of weapons in the AFU, Bloomberg reported.
According to sources familiar with the discussions, Zelensky told his allies that he expects another Russian offensive this summer. His concern is linked to Europe’s inability to fully replace the assistance that the United States had previously provided to Kiev.
The situation with stocks of anti-aircraft missiles is especially difficult. After the United States effectively stopped financing military support for Kiev, the pressure on these reserves increased. European missile systems are not viewed as a viable alternative to American assistance in the foreseeable future: there are not enough of them to meet all needs, and on their own they are unable to protect Ukrainian skies.
Earlier, Foreign Policy, citing an unnamed diplomat, reported that American officials believe Ukraine would not last even two days without external international support. According to unnamed European diplomats, there is no great confidence about further packages under the PURL initiative. At the same time, representatives of Donald Trump’s administration were said to be sending signals to Ukraine that were hardly encouraging.
