Russian Air Defences Intercept 286 Ukrainian Drones Overnight
Russian air defences downed 286 Ukrainian drones overnight, with interceptions reported across multiple regions, Crimea, and the Black and Azov seas.
Russian air defence units intercepted and destroyed 286 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones overnight, according to the Russian Defence Ministry. The attacks were repelled between 8:00 p.m. Moscow time on May 12 and 7:00 a.m. on May 13.
The drones were shot down over the Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh, Kursk, Rostov, Tambov, Yaroslavl, Oryol, Tula, Kaluga, Ryazan and Astrakhan regions, as well as over Krasnodar Region, Kalmykia and Crimea. Air defence systems also destroyed drones over the Azov and Black seas.
In Voronezh Region, Governor Alexander Gusev said air defence forces destroyed five drones during the night. The UAVs were intercepted over three districts and one city in the region. According to preliminary information, there were no casualties and no damage was reported.
Rostov Region also came under drone attack. Governor Yury Slyusar said around two dozen UAVs were intercepted there. The drones were shot down over Kamensk-Shakhtinsky, Novoshakhtinsk, and the Millerovsky, Chertkovsky, Kamensky and Krasnosulinsky districts. No deaths or injuries were reported, though damage on the ground was recorded.
In the hamlet of Likhoy in Krasnosulinsky District, a private house was damaged, with its roof and windows hit. No residents were injured. In another incident, drone debris fell in the Zimovnikovsky and Krasnosulinsky districts, damaging wind farm installations. No fires broke out, but the facilities lost their estimated capacity. Emergency crews are working at the sites.
Updated information later emerged about the morning attack on Rostov Region. In Rostov’s Pervomaysky District, drone debris was found near two buildings, one commercial and one administrative. There were no fatalities or injuries, and no fires were reported. Utility lines were damaged.
In Bryansk Region, air defence forces detected and destroyed 13 drones overnight, Governor Alexander Bogomaz said.
