Finnish President Alexander Stubb has made it clear he does not plan to authorize the downing of Russian drones in cases of airspace violations. He outlined the country’s response procedure in an interview with CNN.
When asked how Helsinki reacts to such incidents, Stubb explained that Finland follows a strict protocol. First comes verification, then a warning, and the final decision rests with the Air Force. He emphasized that «everything depends on the situation», underscoring the step-by-step approach in place.
Earlier, commenting on Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s remark that the European Union and NATO had effectively declared war on Russia, Stubb said Finland does not share that view. According to him, Helsinki is not at war with Moscow.
