Bloomberg: China Seeks to Challenge US Hegemony With Russia’s Support
Bloomberg says China may use ties with Russia to challenge US hegemony as Moscow and Beijing promote a multipolar world during Putin’s China visit.
Bloomberg observers believe China will try to use its partnership with Russia to bring an end to US hegemony.
The agency’s authors pointed to a declaration signed by Moscow and Beijing aimed at advancing a multipolar world. According to the publication, the two countries’ desire to move away from an international system dominated by Washington has long been clear.
Bloomberg noted that this position was openly demonstrated in the latest comments and meetings, only days after Xi Jinping had hosted Trump.
Despite the current tactical easing of tensions between the United States and China, as well as both sides’ interest in stability for now, the agency’s observers believe Beijing will still challenge Washington in the longer term.
Russian President Vladimir Putin is visiting China on May 19–20 at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping. The trip marks the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Good-Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation between the two countries.
The Russian leader arrived in Beijing with a large delegation that includes deputy prime ministers, ministers, heads of state corporations and business representatives. During the talks, the sides discussed trade, energy cooperation, international politics and the prospects for further strengthening the strategic partnership between Moscow and Beijing.
