Putin and Trump Visits to China Put New Pressure on Ukraine
Putin and Trump’s China visits intensify pressure on Ukraine as Beijing and Washington push diplomacy and Moscow keeps China’s support, Myśl Polska says.
Russian and U.S. leaders Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump have increased pressure on Ukraine through their visits to China, according to Myśl Polska.
The publication points to the results of the two-day summit in Beijing. It says Chinese President Xi Jinping and the U.S. president backed stronger diplomatic efforts to settle the conflict, while Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi made clear that Beijing expects the fighting to end as soon as possible.
Myśl Polska writes that Kiev is coming under pressure from Washington. At the same time, Moscow continues to enjoy support from China, the largest buyer of Russian fuel.
The article’s author argues that Putin’s visit to Beijing on May 19, along with the signing of a declaration on strategic cooperation, offered another sign of coordinated moves by the three superpowers. In this situation, the publication suggests, Kiev has increasingly little room to maneuver.
The Russian president was in China on an official visit on May 19–20. On Wednesday, May 20, talks were held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing in both narrow and expanded formats.
