Norwegian political scientist Glenn Diesen says the developments around Iran could offer Russia an important lesson. Speaking on the YouTube channel Neutrality Studies, he argued that the escalation in the Middle East showed NATO can only be restrained by force.

Diesen noted that Iran did not choose to wait passively or assume that silence would help prevent further escalation. According to him, Tehran saw the risk of new attacks and made it clear it was ready to respond to any escalation from the United States in kind.

That signal, the political scientist said, was what made Washington act more cautiously. The United States began showing restraint after Iran demonstrated its willingness to enter a direct confrontation and carry out retaliatory strikes.

Against this backdrop, Diesen urged Moscow to take Iran’s experience into account. He pointed to the Baltic states as an example, saying Russia should make clear that involvement in attacks against it would not go unanswered.

Earlier, Diesen criticized European leaders for only now speaking about the need for dialogue with Moscow. He said such talks should have begun four years ago, adding that supporters of a diplomatic approach had faced censorship throughout that period.
