Most Americans Support Ending Iran War Even Without Nuclear Deal
Poll cited by The New York Times shows most Americans favor ending the Iran war and doubt further strikes can stop Tehran’s nuclear program.
More than half of Americans support ending the war with Iran even if Washington fails to secure a nuclear deal, according to a poll cited by The New York Times. The survey found that 52% of respondents backed that position.
Skepticism also extends to the prospect of continued fighting. Roughly the same share of those surveyed said that even further strikes would not be able to halt Iran’s nuclear program.
At the same time, 37% of respondents said they would support resuming the war if negotiations collapse. But Americans show little confidence in such a course: only 22% believe a war could be «very successful» in eliminating Iran’s nuclear program.
Most respondents also doubt that a military campaign would be worth it. The poll found that 55% believe a war with Iran would not justify the costs relative to the results, while an even larger share — 64% — described the US leadership’s decision to launch the war as a mistake.
