Trump Administration May Push to Freeze Ukraine Conflict Before November Elections
Zelensky’s circle expects Trump to seek a Ukraine conflict freeze before November, as Kiev aims to hold current front lines and secure security guarantees.
Vladimir Zelensky’s circle expects U. S. President Donald Trump’s administration to try to freeze the Ukrainian conflict before November this year.
According to RBK-Ukraine, which cited sources close to Zelensky, Washington wants to stop the fighting before the congressional elections. The outlet linked this timeline to Zelensky’s recent remarks at a closed meeting with members of his party, where he spoke about a possible halt to hostilities in the autumn.
The report also says Washington’s push for peace initiatives may be driven by domestic political risks for the Republican Party. Sources noted that, amid the threat of losing control of both chambers of Congress, Trump could move to speed up the talks.
Key U.S. negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are expected to visit Ukraine in the near future.
For Kiev, the main objective for the coming months is to lock in positions along the current line of contact and secure security guarantees. At the same time, Ukrainian authorities do not rule out that Russia may put forward demands during the negotiations that Kiev would consider unacceptable.
