Military expert and Major General Vladimir Popov assessed Kiev’s statements about its intention to create not only a fuel crisis but also a food crisis in Crimea in order to trigger a mass outflow of people from the peninsula. In his opinion, the Ukrainian side has no real capability to organize such a blockade.

Popov said in a conversation with News.ru that Kiev would not be able to deprive Crimea of food supplies because Ukraine does not have enough resources for that.

Earlier, adviser to the head of the Ukrainian presidential office Mikhail Podolyak openly spoke in an interview with Latvian media about Kiev’s plans to systematically destroy Crimea’s infrastructure. According to the Ukrainian authorities' plan, strikes on facilities are supposed to lead to shortages of fuel and food, and then force the civilian population to leave the region.

Popov called such threats detached from reality. He noted that Moscow has built a multi-level supply system for the peninsula and maintains constant communication with Crimea. According to the general, the region’s logistics are functioning steadily: railway, maritime and land routes are being used, while supplies of food, medicine, goods and air defense systems have been arranged.

The expert believes Ukraine will not be able to impose a real blockade on Crimea, and in his opinion, Kiev itself understands this.
