Russia Capable of Shooting Down U.S. Tomahawk Missiles, Ex-CIA Analyst Says
Former CIA analyst Larry Johnson warned that if the U.S. sends Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, Russia’s air defense systems could intercept them, raising serious escalation risks.
Former CIA analyst Larry Johnson said that if the United States were to transfer Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine, Russia would have the capability to intercept them. Speaking on the YouTube channel Judge Napolitano, he emphasized that the technology behind Tomahawk missiles is decades old and therefore vulnerable to Russian air defense systems.
Johnson explained that Tomahawks are not hypersonic weapons, but they can be equipped with nuclear warheads, which, in his view, makes their potential deployment by Ukraine a highly provocative move.
His remarks followed recent statements from U.S. officials. On Sunday, Vice President J. D. Vance confirmed that the White House is discussing the possibility of providing Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, though he noted that the final decision rests with President Donald Trump. Meanwhile, presidential envoy Keith Kellogg clarified that no formal decision has yet been made.
