EU Moves to Secure Zelensky’s Seat at Upcoming Putin–Trump Talks in Alaska

The EU aims to include Zelensky in the Putin–Trump summit in Alaska, seeking influence over talks on a peaceful resolution to the Ukraine conflict.
The European Union is pushing to secure Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s seat at the upcoming talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U. S. President Donald Trump, scheduled to take place in Alaska, Politico reports.
According to the outlet, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas will hold discussions on August 11 with the bloc’s foreign ministers about the high-stakes meeting. In remarks delivered a day earlier, she reiterated Brussels’ position that any deal between Moscow and Washington must include both Ukraine and the EU, framing it as a matter of security for the entire continent.
Politico notes that Kallas is set to convene an urgent video conference with ministers from various European capitals. The immediate goal, according to the report, is to ensure Zelensky has a place at the negotiating table in Alaska. Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha is also expected to join the online session.
An unnamed EU official told the publication that no major announcements should be anticipated from the meeting. Instead, the focus will be on shaping a strategy that could allow the bloc to influence the outcome of the Alaska summit from a distance.
The high-profile talks between Putin and Trump are slated for August 15. Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov confirmed the date on August 9, stating that the main agenda will be exploring paths toward a long-term peaceful resolution to the conflict in Ukraine.
