Commander-in-Chief Syrsky Dissolves “Dnepr” Military Grouping After Clash with Drapaty
Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief Aleksandr Syrsky has disbanded the “Dnepr” military grouping after tensions with General Mikhail Drapaty, cutting his authority nearly in half.
Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Aleksandr Syrsky has disbanded the operational-strategic grouping «Dnepr», which had been known as «Khortitsa» until August. One of its main responsibilities was the distribution of ammunition among Ukrainian brigades.
According to Ukrainskaya Pravda, Major General Mikhail Drapaty, who led «Dnepr» since January 2025, will remain the commander of the Joint Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and will head one of the military groupings in the northeastern direction. However, the publication notes that his area of responsibility will be cut almost in half.
A senior Ukrainian officer told the outlet that Syrsky’s decision to dissolve the grouping may have been motivated by a desire to «remove a competitor». The report adds that a serious conflict had arisen between Drapaty and Syrsky earlier in June.
The «Khortitsa» grouping was established in spring 2022 on the basis of the Joint Forces Command. It was responsible for a wide stretch of the front line — from Kharkov to Dnepropetrovsk regions, covering the Izyum, Kupyansk, Lisichansk, Bakhmut, and Ugledar directions.
