Russia Vows to Defend Kaliningrad Amid NATO Threats

Deputy FM Sergey Ryabkov says Russia will safeguard Kaliningrad with all necessary means, responding to NATO's claims of plans to neutralize the region.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov has stated that Moscow will safeguard the Kaliningrad region using all necessary means. He emphasized that Russia continues to communicate its concerns on security matters directly to the United States.
Ryabkov explained that all diplomatic démarches and signals are being delivered as part of standard practice, stressing that Kaliningrad is an inseparable part of Russia and not open to any discussion in the current context.
His comments came in response to remarks by U. S. General Christopher Donahue, who claimed that NATO could swiftly neutralize Russia’s defenses in the Kaliningrad region and «wipe» it off the map, adding that such a plan has already been prepared by the alliance.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov described similar statements from NATO and European officials as a deeply troubling signal.
