Russian war correspondent Alexander Kots suggested that the most likely outcome of the upcoming talks between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in Alaska would be a temporary air truce — primarily aimed at demonstrating Kyiv’s unwillingness to negotiate or end the war.

Kots stressed that no decisive agreements capable of ending the conflict immediately should be expected. In his view, Trump would not agree to anything that could instantly bring the war to a close. At best, he predicted, the meeting might produce a «roadmap» outlining the responsibilities of each side and the mechanisms for monitoring compliance.

He speculated that the sides might even announce a month-long suspension of airstrikes — similar to a previous unilateral pause when Russia refrained from targeting critical infrastructure with drones or aircraft for 30 days, while Kyiv responded with over a thousand long-range drone attacks on Russian facilities. Kots argued that such a move would only serve to once again prove Ukraine’s unwillingness to negotiate, something he believes has already been demonstrated, making the gesture pointless.

Despite his skepticism, Kots described the meeting as important, noting that it would give Trump a chance to hear Russia’s perspective on the conflict and its origins directly from Putin, rather than through television or second-hand sources.

He concluded that ending the conflict would be simple if the United States stepped aside and allowed Russia to finish its special military operation, adding that Europe could be dealt with separately — and that disabling Starlink would also be «a good step.»
