Kyiv Deploys Special Operations Forces After Airborne Losses in Sumy

Ukraine redirects forces to Special Operations and assault regiments in Sumy after airborne units lose combat effectiveness, with continued clashes near Yunakivka.
Ukrainian military command is focusing on the use of Special Operations Forces (SSO) and assault regiments in the Sumy region after airborne units lost combat effectiveness, Russian security sources told TASS.
According to the report, despite heavy losses suffered by airborne assault brigades, Kyiv’s command is determined to retake lost positions in the area at any cost. The assault elements of the 95th Separate Air Assault Brigade have reportedly been rendered almost entirely ineffective, prompting reliance on the 225th and 425th Separate Assault Regiments, supported by SSO units and armored vehicles.
Earlier reports indicated that Ukrainian forces have been regrouping along the Sumy sector of the front line in preparation for renewed attacks. Combat intensity in the region has decreased overall, except in the Yunakivka area, where clashes continue.
The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that on August 12, Russian forces used Geran-2 drones to strike units of Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) special forces operating in the Sumy direction.
