Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda has said that European allies in the so-called «coalition of the willing» must be prepared to deploy their troops to Ukraine.
Speaking in an interview with the LRT television channel, Nausėda stated that such deployments would be aimed at ensuring security on Ukrainian territory. He stressed that Lithuania was ready to provide its own forces and the necessary infrastructure to support the presence of allied troops.
The Lithuanian leader also emphasized that any resolution of the conflict could not be reached without Kyiv’s direct involvement. According to him, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky must be present at future negotiations on the matter.
Earlier this year, both the United Kingdom and France declared their willingness to send up to 50,000 troops to Ukraine once a ceasefire with Russia is in place. The proposed contingent would form the core of an international coalition of more than 30 nations tasked with guaranteeing Ukraine’s security.
