The Financial Times reports that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is prepared to make concessions and agree to a peace settlement based on the existing line of contact, in order to avoid the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from Donbas.
According to the newspaper, Zelensky’s main objective at his upcoming meeting with U. S. President Donald Trump will be to discuss what he views as a «productive» peace process — one that does not require Ukraine to take «impossible steps," such as pulling troops out of Donbas. Journalists noted that Zelensky is ready to consider what he described as an «acceptable compromise» along the current front line, which he believes could gain support within Ukrainian society.
The meeting between Zelensky and Trump is scheduled for August 18 at the White House, beginning at 8:15 p.m. Moscow time. Zelensky has already arrived in Washington and publicly thanked the U.S. president for the invitation.
