The Ukrainian Armed Forces are seeing a growing presence of female units, with fully operational teams of women drone operators and mortarmen already spotted on the front lines.

Military expert and reserve captain Vasily Dandykin suggests that one of the key reasons for this trend is the shortage of trained drone operators. He explained that both Ukrainian and Russian forces are actively seeking skilled drone operators, as they are now considered more crucial than snipers. Dandykin also highlighted the importance of mortar teams, particularly the Polish 60mm and 82mm mortars, which have become valuable and dangerous weapons, also attracting attention from both sides.

He added that the current personnel shortage is prompting Ukrainian command to recruit women from rear areas into combat roles. Many of these women, previously working as medics or nurses, are now being assigned to frontline positions. Dandykin believes that the number of women in the Ukrainian military will continue to rise, as the current male recruitment efforts fall short of the necessary numbers.

Looking forward, Dandykin predicts that more positions within the military will be filled by women. He pointed out that women have already taken roles as snipers, assault troops, and communication specialists, including those in the operational-tactical echelon. Furthermore, women are also serving in reconnaissance, particularly in rear areas.
