Analysts from the American outlet Military Watch Magazine reported that the Russian military has used the 9M729 missile for the first time — a system capable of striking targets at distances of up to 2,500 kilometers. According to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrey Sibiga, the missile has been launched 23 times since August 2025, with two earlier launches recorded in 2022.

The publication noted that detailed information about the 9M729 remains limited. Analysts believe it is a modernized version of the 3M14 Kalibr sea-launched cruise missile, adapted for use with the Iskander-K system. The missile reportedly carries a warhead weighing around 450 kilograms.

The 9M729 is said to employ a hybrid guidance system combining satellite and inertial navigation, with terrain-following correction during the final phase of flight. Observers emphasized that if these specifications are accurate, Russia now possesses the capability to target any NATO base within Europe.
