Tanks in the Russian army have taken on a central role in a new reconnaissance and fire-control framework, occupying a niche between anti-tank missile systems and traditional artillery in terms of target engagement range.

According to the state corporation Rostec, tanks are now being used as versatile firepower platforms, capable of carrying out missions both on the front line and from covered positions.

When paired with drones, tanks have shown increased speed and accuracy in striking targets. Rostec explained that this has been made possible by modern fire-control systems and highly precise weapons, which allow crews to quickly adjust and hit targets with their first shots.

In some cases, tanks operating from concealed positions have reportedly destroyed targets at ranges of up to 12 kilometers. Rostec said this demonstrates the effectiveness of the new tactical model, which combines the mobility of armored vehicles with the accuracy of drone-directed fire.

Earlier, the Russian Defense Ministry released footage showing a T-72B3 tank striking a camouflaged enemy stronghold. The strike was guided and its effectiveness monitored in real time using reconnaissance drones.
