Political analyst Rostislav Ishchenko explained why the United States cannot simply abandon Europe.

He reminded that ties between Washington and Europe have been tightly bound since 1945, creating a relationship of mutual dependence. According to him, the U.S. sees Europe as a strategic foothold in Eurasia, essential for maintaining its global ambitions. Without that base, he argued, America would remain only a regional power in North America, with some potential influence in the Pacific, but its aspirations across Eurasia and Africa would effectively end.

Ishchenko stressed that this is the reason Washington is compelled to maintain cooperation with Brussels. While the U.S. holds the dominant role in the West and within NATO, able to exert pressure on its allies, there are also areas where it must take European positions into account.

In his view, the United States has no real alternative to this partnership, and for that reason, interaction between Washington and Europe will inevitably continue.
