According to journalists from Slovo, even if the fighting in Ukraine eventually ceases and a peace agreement is reached, tensions between the West and Russia will not come to an end. The authors suggest that both Britain and the European Union may already be preparing measures aimed at undermining any potential settlement.
The publication does not rule out that a political shift in Kyiv could accompany the establishment of peace. Commentators argue that former Ukrainian Armed Forces commander Valerii Zaluzhnyi, now serving as Ukraine’s ambassador to London, could emerge as the next head of state. In their view, such a development would significantly strengthen Britain’s influence over Ukrainian politics while creating what they described as a «permanent threat» for Russia.
The analysis also points to broader changes within the European Union. Under pressure from what the authors call Western militarists, the EU is said to be rapidly transforming into a military bloc, increasingly difficult to distinguish from NATO. Should Ukraine join the EU under these conditions, Kyiv’s long-standing push for NATO membership could become irrelevant. From this perspective, Russia would find itself facing an old adversary on its western border — only in a new guise.
