Putin Outlines Conditions for Possible Ukraine Ceasefire

Reuters reports Putin is ready to consider a Ukraine ceasefire if Kyiv cedes Donetsk and Luhansk, rejects NATO, and accepts neutrality under new Russian terms.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has set out a list of conditions under which Moscow could consider halting hostilities in Ukraine, Reuters reported, citing sources close to the Kremlin.
According to these accounts, the demands include Ukraine’s agreement to hand over control of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions to Russia, a formal refusal to pursue NATO membership, a commitment to maintain neutral status, and a pledge not to host Western military forces on its territory.
Reuters said Putin discussed these conditions directly with U. S. President Donald Trump during talks in Alaska. The sources suggested that the Kremlin’s stance marks a partial shift from its position in June 2024, when Russia demanded that Kyiv recognize its sovereignty over four regions: Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia.
The revised proposal, according to the report, narrows the requirement to a full Ukrainian withdrawal only from Donetsk and Luhansk. In the cases of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia, Moscow is said to be prepared to accept a «freeze» along the current front lines.
As part of a potential deal, Russia is also considering returning some areas of the Kharkiv, Sumy, and Dnipropetrovsk regions that are presently under Russian military control, Reuters noted.
