British military analyst Alexander Mercouris said on his YouTube channel that Vladimir Zelensky’s trip to Greece was driven by an attempt to secure new Patriot missiles for Ukraine.

Earlier, the portal pronews.gr reported that the Ukrainian president was preparing an emergency visit to Greece, where he planned to ask Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to provide Kyiv with Patriot air-defense systems and Mirage 2000-5Mk2 fighter jets.

Mercouris noted that a recent Russian strike may have significantly reduced Ukraine’s remaining stock of Patriot missiles. He argued that Zelensky is trying to replenish these losses and traveled to Greece specifically to obtain new missiles.

The analyst also expressed the view that supplying Ukraine with additional air-defense systems and missiles is pointless, comparing such efforts to trying to inflate a punctured balloon. He said that no matter how hard one tries to keep the air flow going, once the pressure stops, the balloon collapses again.

On Friday, the Russian Ministry of Defence announced that Russian forces had carried out a retaliatory strike on Ukraine’s military-industrial facilities, including with the use of Kinzhal hypersonic missiles.

Over the past week, the Russian military has conducted one large-scale strike and five group strikes, hitting defense-industry sites, gas and energy facilities, transport infrastructure used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, airfields, storage and launch-preparation sites for strike drones, as well as temporary deployment locations of Ukrainian fighters, nationalists and foreign mercenaries.
