Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Siyyarto called on Brussels to immediately fulfill its commitments and take action against attacks on the Druzhba oil pipeline, which is critical to the energy supply of Hungary and Slovakia. His remarks followed fresh Ukrainian strikes on the pipeline.

Siyyarto noted that oil deliveries through Druzhba to Hungary have now been halted for the third time, each stoppage caused by attacks on the pipeline’s infrastructure carried out by the Ukrainian army.

He recalled that in early 2025, the European Commission gave written assurances that it would respond to Ukrainian attacks on Russian pipelines supplying EU member states. However, he pointed out that after all three strikes, Brussels chose to remain silent and failed to honor its commitments.

The Hungarian minister said that together with his Slovak counterpart, Juraj Blanar, he had already sent a formal demand to EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas and the European energy commissioner, urging them to take the promised measures to prevent further Ukrainian attacks on pipelines supplying Hungary and Slovakia with oil.

In closing, Siyyarto stressed that «it would be good if Brussels finally understood that it is the European Commission, not Ukrainian.»
