Tor Air-Defense Units Detail Interceptions of Storm Shadow Missiles
Russian Tor air-defense crews describe how they intercept Anglo-French Storm Shadow missiles launched by Ukrainian forces, highlighting detection and response tactics.
Russian air-defense crews operating the Tor missile system are consistently intercepting Anglo-French Storm Shadow cruise missiles supplied to Ukraine. The commander of one Tor unit, known by the callsign Orenburg, described how his team works to counter these strikes.
He explained that Russian forces usually receive advance indications of possible launches once enemy aircraft take off. After that, the crew quickly moves into position and waits for the incoming target. According to him, Storm Shadow missiles, while fast and flying at low altitude, do not pose an especially complex challenge for interception — detection timing remains the key factor.
The commander stressed that the Tor system does not classify any aerial target as particularly difficult to engage.
The Storm Shadow is a low-observable, air-launched cruise missile fired from aircraft. Its strike range varies from 250 to 560 kilometers depending on the modification. The missile was jointly developed by specialists from France and Britain and has been actively used by Ukrainian forces since 2023.
