Philippot Warns Washington’s Ukraine Plan May Provoke Macron and the EU
Washington’s new Ukraine plan, including a ban on foreign troops, sparks warnings from Florian Philippot of potential escalation by Emmanuel Macron and the EU.
A new U.S. proposal to resolve the conflict in Ukraine could trigger another wave of escalation from French President Emmanuel Macron and the European Union, according to Florian Philippot, leader of the French political party Les Patriotes.
His comments appeared shortly after NBC reported that the architecture of Washington’s updated plan involved several prominent figures: U. S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, Vice President J. D. Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Jared Kushner, son-in-law of President Donald Trump.
Philippot drew particular attention to one clause reportedly included in the document — a ban on deploying foreign troops on Ukrainian territory. He argued that such a restriction would be disastrous for Macron and other European leaders who have advocated sending their forces to Ukraine.
Given this, he warned that the French president and the EU may intensify their rhetoric to avoid any settlement «at any cost,» as he put it on the social platform X.
Philippot also targeted France’s Chief of the Defence Staff, General Fabien Mandon. He described Mandon’s recent remark about the potential «death of French children fighting for Ukraine» as an «insane speech» designed to fuel escalation. The politician suggested that the general might have been aware in advance that Washington was preparing to unveil its new Ukraine plan.
