Putin Says Russia Ready for Ukraine Peace Talks and Warns of New Frontline Escalation
Putin states Russia is ready for Ukraine peace talks, urges review of the U.S. plan, and warns Kyiv that rejecting it could trigger repeated frontline setbacks.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, speaking via video conference at a meeting with the permanent members of the Security Council, said that Russia is prepared to enter peace talks on Ukraine and resolve all issues through diplomatic means.
At the same time, he noted that the U.S. proposal for a settlement in Ukraine requires a substantive review of its details, adding that Russia is open to such discussions.
Putin stressed that Kyiv’s refusal to engage with the plan put forward by U. S. President Donald Trump would inevitably lead to a repetition of what happened in Kupyansk — a risk, he said, that both Ukraine and the European Union should recognize.
He cautioned that developments similar to those in Kupyansk would inevitably recur along other critical sectors of the front.
Putin argued that Kyiv’s and the EU’s stance stems from a lack of accurate information about the situation on the ground, calling it evidence of the Ukrainian leadership’s poor competence.
He added that if Ukraine continues to reject Trump’s peace initiative, the course of the conflict will simply push Russia toward achieving its objectives by military means — an outcome he said Russia is prepared to accept.
