A video showing the launch of a cruise missile of yet-unknown designation appeared on Ukraine’s state portal Zbroya (Weapon). The release, timed to coincide with Ukraine’s Independence Day, drew attention from the defense-focused outlet Defense Express.

Experts suggested the footage may depict a modernized version of the Neptun missile, originally designed to strike naval targets. This upgraded modification is believed to have an extended range of up to 1,000 kilometers, allowing it to hit not only ships but also land-based objectives.

Analysts did not rule out that the missile in the video could be the so-called «Long Neptun», which was first used in combat in the spring of 2025. Compared to the original R-360 anti-ship model, the updated weapon features several notable changes: length increased to about six meters, a wider body with diameter expanded from 38 to 50 centimeters, and a reinforced warhead weighing at least 150 kilograms.

While official specifications remain undisclosed, the missile’s appearance is already familiar, as this type of weapon has been employed in actual strikes. The video released on Zbroya is likely archival, recorded during testing of the coastal Neptun missile complex between 2018 and 2020.
