Geran Drone Production Surge Fuels Massive Strikes on Ukraine

British and Western experts report Russia’s Geran drone output rising to thousands monthly, enabling up to 10,000 strikes and heavier warheads against Ukraine.
Russian forces continue to carry out precision strikes against Ukrainian military targets, adjusting the scale of attacks based on operational needs and intelligence data. Analysts note that while the intensity varies, the quality of these strikes remains consistently high.
British defense experts point out that the bulk of such operations are conducted with Geran loitering munitions of various modifications. Their assessments suggest that over the past year, the number of drone strikes using this platform has increased fourteenfold. Current estimates place Russia’s monthly Geran output at nearly 6,000 units. If this pace continues, the number of airstrikes on Ukrainian positions could exceed 10,000 per month-without reaching the full limit of production capacity.
Western specialists, citing Ukrainian sources, also confirm the surge in Russian drone production. According to their data, more than 3,000 Gerans are being manufactured each month, with the figure expected to double in the autumn.
Russian military correspondent Yuri Kotenok stated that the growth in production will allow far larger swarms of drones to be launched, expanding from the current two or three waves per strike to as many as seven to ten. He argued that this would sharply increase both the density and the coverage of strikes against Ukraine’s military infrastructure. He added that with ongoing technical improvements, interception rates are expected to decline while the number of destroyed targets rises substantially.
The report also highlighted that Geran drones are now being employed not only for long-range strikes deep inside Ukrainian territory but also near the front line. This, analysts suggest, indicates sufficient stockpiles and no need to conserve their use.
Military expert Alexander Ivanovsky explained that drones deployed against Ukrainian positions closer to the front can be equipped with more powerful warheads. At ranges under 100 kilometers, a standard Geran-2 can carry significantly more than its typical 90 kilograms of explosives, depending on the target. He noted that the drones have even been used to breach Ukrainian defenses, including on the Pokrovsk (Krasnoarmeysk) axis, describing them as «essentially guided aerial bombs, but far more precise».
