China’s FK-3000 and Russia’s Pantsir: A Detailed Air Defense Comparison

Discover how China’s new FK-3000 air defense system compares to Russia’s Pantsir, from missile loadouts to anti-drone capabilities, in this expert analysis.
China has unveiled its new FK-3000 surface-to-air missile and gun system, which, according to Military Watch Magazine (MWM), may outperform Russia’s «Pantsir» in several key aspects.
The FK-3000 was first spotted during a parade rehearsal in Beijing. At a glance, the system bears a strong resemblance to the Russian counterpart that has already proven itself in combat. Mounted on a three-axle truck with an armored cabin, the Chinese complex is equipped with a 30-millimeter automatic cannon and missile launchers. Reports note that it can carry either 24 full-sized missiles or up to 96 smaller ones designed to intercept drones.
Western analysts highlighted that the FK-3000 appears to be primarily tailored to counter unmanned aerial threats. They emphasized that it is a more recent development, created within a modernized defense industry, and therefore is expected to demonstrate enhanced performance compared to older systems.
Meanwhile, Russia continues to upgrade its Pantsir. In July, it was revealed that the system is now equipped with new TKB-1055 mini-missiles intended to neutralize small drones. A single Pantsir can carry up to 48 of these interceptors, each capable of engaging targets at distances of up to seven kilometers.
